Impact for the Planet
With full awareness of our responsibility to the environment, we are committed to maintaining our dedication to it, promoting pioneering eco-friendly practices in the industry, and continuously improving our environmental performance.
Biodiversity-Focused Approach
At Turkon Line, we consider the protection of species and marine ecosystems a primary responsibility. By identifying operational risks, we carry out preventive actions against factors that threaten biodiversity. Water consumption and wastewater management in our vessel operations are regularly monitored. Through training programs such as Environmental Awareness, Waste Management, and Ballast Water Training, we enhance our awareness every day. In addition, with the 10-knot speed limit we apply during whale season on our U.S. route, we continue to protect whale habitats and contribute to the sustainability of species.
Sustainable Maritime Transport through Route Optimization
In maritime transportation, we enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our operations through AI-powered route optimization and performance analyses. By employing constant power sailing strategies, advanced performance models, and meteorological assessments, the safest and most cost-effective routes are determined. In this way, fuel consumption and carbon emissions are reduced, energy efficiency is improved, costs are lowered, and a strategic advantage is achieved in fleet management.
Scrubber System
At Turkon Line, we act with full awareness of our responsibility to the environment and prioritize emission management in line with our sustainability vision. To protect natural resources and reduce air pollution, we take various measures and keep emissions from our operations under control. As a first in Türkiye, we installed Scrubber System on all our vessels to ensure full compliance with IMO regulations. In doing so, we went beyond the legal limit of 0.5% and reduced sulfur emissions to 0.1%. This proactive approach reflects our determination to minimize our environmental impact.
Our Next-Generation Ships
We have made a major investment by commissioning two container ships, each with a capacity of 4,000 TEU, to enhance our service quality.
Built by our group company Sedef Shipyard, these vessels — the largest container ships constructed in Türkiye — will not only increase our carrying capacity by 50%,but also strengthen our sustainable logistics vision with environmentally friendly technologies. Construction of these next-generation Eco-ships began in 2023 and they are designed to operate on five different fuel types: LNG, MGO, HFO, VLSFO, and ULSFO. This allows us to minimize environmental impact while carrying more cargo with less fuel.
With our more efficient, more powerful, and the largest fleet in Türkiye, we aim to shape the future of maritime transportation, adding new value to both our industry and our country.
Carbon Footprint Measurement
In line with our sustainability goals and in full compliance with legal requirements, we have initially started measuring our carbon footprint on our vessels. We have expanded this practice to our offices as well, enabling detailed and comprehensive management of carbon emissions both on our vessels and in our offices. This approach aims to minimize our environmental impact while strengthening our long-term carbon management strategies.
Environmentally Friendly Print Management System
A new system has been implemented in our company to reduce the number of printers and prevent users from printing without manually entering a code at the devices in printing areas. This system ensures that unnecessary printouts are avoided and only the documents that are actually needed are printed. Paper and toner consumption have been significantly reduced, contributing to the conservation of natural resources. Additionally, energy efficiency has increased, and electricity usage has decreased due to fewer devices being in operation. Device management has been simplified, reducing the need for maintenance and technical support. User awareness has also been raised, making employees more conscious of their printing habits. This initiative represents an important step both in reducing environmental impact and supporting our digital transformation efforts. In line with our sustainability goals, we will continue to expand such technological solutions to use resources more efficiently and minimize our carbon footprint.
Sustainable Water Management with Reverse Osmosis
The Evaporator (FWG) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems used on Turkon Line vessels provide reliable and continuous freshwater during sea voyages. While producing high-quality water, these systems prevent corrosion and rust, ensure energy efficiency, and reduce chemical usage. Brine is discharged in a controlled manner, reducing pressure on terrestrial water resources and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. With modern membrane technology, both environmental and operational efficiency are enhanced. These systems are an important part of Turkon Line’s sustainable and eco-friendly approach.
Our Promise to the Blue
On June 19, 2025, in collaboration with Şile Municipality and the Turkish Foundation for Environmental Education (TÜRÇEV), we came together at Şile Beach, in the dune area where endangered sand lilies are found, to fulfill our responsibility to nature. During the event, waste was meticulously collected, making a significant contribution to the preservation of local natural habitats. This meaningful activity not only represented an important step for the sustainability of biodiversity but also helped strengthen our environmental awareness.
