Port Storage
Port storage is a fee charged by the port authority when import or export containers remain in the port area or terminal beyond the allocated free time.
- Free Time: The period during which a container can remain at the port free of charge (typically 3–7 days).
- Storage: A daily fee charged once the free time expires, for the space occupied by the container within the port area.
Why Is Storage Charged?
- To ensure efficient space management within the port area
- To prevent containers from remaining in the port for extended periods
- To enhance the efficiency of port operations
In general, storage charges for export shipments are paid to the port authority via the carrier, while for import shipments they are paid directly to the port authority by the importing company.
