The Potential Work Stoppage at US East Coast Terminals

The negotiations between “International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA)” and “United States Maritime Alliance (USMX)” for the potential strikes at the ports of USA East Cost and the Gulf Area as of October 1st, 2024 is still in progress.

Hereunder Turkon contingency plans at the US East Coast Terminals for possible work stoppage on October 1st;

PORT ELIZABETH of NEW YORK (APM)

APM Terminals Elizabeth will resume normal gate hours (06:00h–16:00h) for Monday, September 30th. The appointment system will reflect these appointment windows accordingly. 

Imports: Import appointments will proceed as normal. Turkon strongly advise the customers to take advantage of the extended gate hours, including 19:00h cutoff through September 27th, and the additional Saturday gates on September 21st and September 28th. 

Exports: Export appointments will be available as usual, with regular gate cutoffs through September 30th, except for live reefers. The terminal won’t accept live reefer exports on September 30th. 

Empties: Both inbound and outbound empty appointments will continue as normal. 

Out-of-Gauge (OOG): OOG operations will be handled as usual, except for the Saturday gates on September 21st and September 28th, when OOG containers will not be serviced.

Rail Operations: Rail operations will continue as normal through September 30th. 
Please consult your rail providers for any updates or changes to their operational plans. 

Reefer Operations: We highly encourage customers to take advantage of the extended gate hours (19:00h cutoffs and Saturday gates) to pick up “import” reefers. Turkon will not be responsible for loss or damage to contents of reefers not picked up before the close of business September 30th as they will not be monitored and maintained if the terminal is closed due to work stoppage. 

“Export” reefers will not be accepted after “M/V Kaan Kalkavan 0US7IE1TK” until a further instruction.

APM Terminals Port Elizabeth

Perdiem: Turkon will freeze the perdiem calculation during a work stoppage.

VIRGINIA PORT of NORFOLK (NIT)

The Port of Virginia will observe the following weekend operational hours for September 21st and September 28-29th.

Normal Gate Hours Monday-Friday: 06:00h – 18:00h
PRO-PASS mandatory reservation hours conclude at 15:00h
Final reefer pick-up at 16:30h

Weekend Gates: 
September 21st   (Saturday) -  September 28th   (Saturday)
The terminal will open at 07:00h, with an inbound portal closure of 16:00h 
PRO-PASS mandatory reservation hours will be in effect from 07:00h-16:00h
Final reefer pick-up at 15:30h

September 29th  (Sunday)
The terminal will open at 07:00h, with an inbound portal closure of 11:00h 
PRO-PASS mandatory reservation hours will be in effect from 07:00h-11:00h 
Final reefer pick-up at 10:30h

GEORGIA PORTS  of SAVANNAH (GPA)

Gate hours:
Normal Gate Hours Monday-Friday: 04:00h – 18:00h

Weekend Gates: 
Saturday, September 21st: Gates open 08:00h-17:00h
Sunday, September 22nd: Gates closed
Saturday, September 28th: Gates open 08:00h-17:00h
Sunday, September 29th: Gates open 08:00h-1700h
            
Imports: We recommend you take delivery of your cargo well before October 1st to minimize
any disruptions and avoid storage costs on terminal. The terminal is offering  weekend gates to
support this effort.

Exports: Turkon will receive exports up to September 30th.

Reefer Operations: We highly encourage customers to take advantage of the extended gate hours to pick up “import” reefers. Turkon will not be responsible for loss or damage to contents of reefers not picked up before the close of business September 30th as they will not be monitored and maintained if the terminal is closed due to work stoppage.
